one of my favorite tickets is "MY PASSWORD NO LONGER WORKS I'VE USED EVERY PERMUTATION KNOWN TO MANKIND WHY DID YOU CHANGE IT I'M BLOCKED UNTIL YOU FIX THIS AND I'M CC YOUR MANAGER YOUR MANAGERS MANAGER AND MY MANAGER AND MY MANAGERS MANAGER YOU MORON." and 100 times out of 100 i look at the hash and it's the same hash it's always been and send them a screenshot of the note i sent them when they started that says: keep track of this password. six months from now when you forget it and ask me to reset it i am going to send you a screenshot of these instructions on how to recover it.

@keithpjolley@discuss.systems One time I actually did have a "password no longer works" problem that wasn't my fault. (Two backend systems were unified. This imposed a new password requirement inherited from one system onto accounts from the other system—'*' became disallowed iirc—and they apparently decided that the right way to handle existing passwords was to do nothing and wait for the frustrated users to call the helpdesk.)
