My point still stands. Most maintainers will be doing it as their day job, just like kernel maintainers, by companies that have a big enough income in something using the software, so they MUST have own employees, that really know and can fix any issue in the code. If someone else is doing it, they ofcourse won't.

@Di4na Why do you think redhat allowed poettering to rewrite init stack. Same need. Smaller orgs contribute (if they are good), larger ones have maintainers (they can afford it better, and it does give them more control)
