@sidereal Agreed, and very confusing. Why no evaluation of costs/benefits? Why are these questions treated as idiotic and/or hostile? Costs (post VC funding) arent even estimated. Profitable companies are laying people off despite retention being cheaper/faster than hiring, and we're openly relying more on senior devs while gutting the creation of future seniors. Maintenance is the big cost, but little is said re: LLMs vs upkeep.
The laser focus on the short term is almost fanatical.

@sidereal For some reason an industry with a long history of fads and "revolutions" that either fade or do succeed but retain real issues, is particulaly hostile to questioning on "AI". Way more so than the no-code tools of the 80s-90s, the OOP push, Java/JVM, that weird Map-Reduce fetish, blockchain, etc.. This feels more...desperate and intense? Weirdly, I feel the big tech that DID change everything (the web) had/has healthy and considered skepticism among the hype the whole time.
