WW2 was before my time, but I've read enough to know the losers lost because of oil.

@mike805@noc.social ok, further to the above i typed the reverse to quality in my original reply – switching back to characteristics v heirarchic cats, shale oil is 'sweet' and gulf oil 'sour' us refineries are calibrated to gulf oil characteristics. the further point was that shale fields are limited and produce for an average of 3 to 4 years, that there is a limited supply of shale vs gulf supply which is not comparable upshot is that your idea to invest in recalibrating refinery infrastructure (something i'm in no position to assess the economics of) is in pursuit of refining shale that is in very limited supply. it is just an absurd thing to suggest tbqh
