When I benchmark my programs, what I’m really interested in finding out is, “How much of my lifespan is being spent waiting for the tool to do the job?” If the answer is, “More than if you did it yourself by hand,” then it needs work. Don’t denigrate wall clock performance. The user doesn’t experience CPU core time, they experience wall clock time.
