@hgrsd It's possible the lesson is supposed to be for oppressors- don't mistreat others just because they're different- rather than the oppressed. Also, the moral of a story has to logically relate to the central conflict. It's hard to tell a compelling story about the importance of treating others well even when they're different without showing some people being mistreated for being different.
