One of the little paper cut issues I have with Amazon is how if I'm looking for information on how to do something, and want to buy equipment or kits to get started, most of the information pages I find link me to Amazon to buy the things I need. Sometimes if I'm lucky, they'll provide enough information I can do a search to find the thing elsewhere (if it's even available anywhere else), but a lot of times they don't give me enough information to do a good search to find the thing somewhere that isn't utterly abhorrent¹. Tonight's rant brought to you by my desire to attempt Kintsugi to repair my broken tea pet. I dropped my poor little fox friend back in January, and they've been sitting on my computer desk in front of my monitor, waiting for me to find spoons to repair them since. Today Upton Tea² sent one of their marketing emails³ telling me they have a new tea pet available⁴ and it's a really fucking adorable tiger with the most expressive little face and I really want him. And I feel guilty ordering a new tea pet without also repairing my existing one. I did try the most ADHD friendly solution: grab the gorilla glue I already had on hand, but that had dried up in the nozzle on me. Unsure if it was because I'd let it sit too long between uses or when I let my housemate borrow it, she let it get all clogged up before giving it back. So I figured if the easy do it when I have dopamine to drive me solution didn't work, welp, back to the original plan. — ¹ Yes, I know a lot of places are pure shit these days, I know how Capitalism works, thanks. But even if I can't avoid them all, I do at least make an effort to avoid the worst offenders... and honestly, you're hard pressed to find someone worse than Amazon in the US. No judgement if you're not in the position to make the choice to avoid them, but it's one I've managed to be able to hold to for years now, and don't plan to change that without major extenuating circumstances. ² Yes, the same company that recently switched their back end to Shop, took away my ability to log in using a password, and broke the wishlist function on their site until I decide to either trust UBlockOrigin in LibreWolf when I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the permissions in the fucking thing, or figure out what domains I need to enable in NoScript to get wishlists back. Good loose leaf tea means I'm going to have to fight to navigate their fucked up site. >.< Harney and Sons fell to this same problem years ago, and the third loose leaf tea place I order from is primarily Chinese teas and doesn't cover all types/blends I enjoy. ³ They're one of a very small number of companies that don't get unsubscribed from, or worse yet banished to spam if unsubscribe doesn't work. ⁴ My fox tea pet came from TeaVivre, and they have a lot of great ones, so I'd originally planned to order my next one from them too if, but this tiger is too fucking cute.
