Just finished reading this book. It was quite interesting, and joined the dots in my understanding. A few takeaways: continental modernism only really arrived in the early 1930s, the explosion of “stockbrokers’ Tudor” originated in the Arts & Crafts movement but got picked up by speculative property developers pandering to sentiment, Swedish modern design was more influential in the 20s UK than I thought, and “art deco” is like “techno” in music: used to describe a lot of things that aren’t it
