Okay, time for a rambling thread on exercise, with added articles. Basic overview on exercise - Exercise is good, even in small amounts. - Government guidelines recommend 150 minutes of exercise per week, and research suggest 3 - 5 hours may offer the greatest longevity benefit; beyond 5 hours the gains level off. - “But brisk walking most days of the week is incredibly effective. It’s actually better to walk consistently than to overdo it once in a while." - “The closer you get to 7,000 or 8,000 steps a day, the better – but anything that gets you moving regularly is a win.” 1/n https://www.uhhospitals.org/blog/articles/2025/11/want-to-live-longer-heres-what-exercise-science-reveals #HK72Posts

Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis - “Essentially, NEAT is any calories that you burn outside of specific exercise activity" - “[NEAT is] a way to burn additional calories and further optimize your overall health.” If you’re physically able to get the recommended 150 minutes of aerobic exercise each week (plus strength-training on two days), keep aiming for that. Doing lots of NEAT activities does burn calories and offer health benefits, but it’s better as a supplement to your regular fitness routine. - NEAT can be a good motivator to increase the number of low-effort activities you already do and help you work up to a more regular exercise routine. Since the activity isn’t strenuous, you can get extra movement into your day without much effort. 2/n https://www.uhhospitals.org/blog/articles/2026/03/neat-burns-calories-without-exercise
