@Bern Down here in the badlands the vehicle already in a lane has right of way and anyone merging has to give way / find a safe gap. BUT the tests and education booklets all say open a gap, teach courtesy. It’s a case of “technically right” vs “you’re still an arsehole”. Cars are only required to give way to busses down here when the bus is at a bus stop and trying to get out, and must change lanes to do so. Any other time, busses merge with the same rules as any other vehicle.

    @Bern And even though there is a situation where busses should be given way to, it’s honestly not worth forcing a point. Ever. Make the bus show a little body language without necessarily blocking others, and you’ll be given a gap. And if not, just wait.

    @bastardsheep I just double-checked the Qld road rules, and it's the same here. Most people just give way to buses any time they indicate, though. There are always the dickheads, though, of course. In the past, it was often BMW drivers, but I'm noticing such behaviour from Tesla drivers a lot lately. 🤔
