I can't quite describe the despair I feel when I watch yet another friend succumb to the AI cult. As long as the AI industry keeps destroying jobs, keeps using up unsustainable amounts of energy, keeps driving up prices and ruining more and more existences every day, as long as these tools run on centralized servers and require continually sharing your most private data with fascist megacorporations and literal war criminals, as long as these models are black boxes that can only be trained by a wealthy cabal on stolen work, who has total control over how they work and what they can and cannot do, as long as the use of these tools slowly destroys our own mental abilities, making us more and more dependent on these same terrible people, who will now charge us obscene amounts of money just for the act of thinking, AI is not an option. Not in its current form, completely corrupted by capitalism. We are pigs walking into a slaughterhouse and admiring all the fascinating machines. No amount of mental acrobatics can make this worth it. (Sorry for getting so dark here, but man am I tired of this subject.)
