@knud Ideally, yes. But, for example, for us scientist in Peru, that is a very expensive proposition and one that is never covered by our universities. I am not sure about the situation for author of the paper I mentioned.

@jmcastagnetto My last paper was published gold open access and the cost for doing so was: zero https://astro.theoj.org There is little cost in SpringerNature's pricing and a lot of profit.
