Experimenting with filters settings, and to be positive about the results, filtering all posts to a website is possible, effective and satisfying.
It's laborious though, especially if I'd want usefully distinct labels so different websites trigger different filters descriptions.
This might be something a simple POSIX shell/bash/Python script can do, with the import/export functionality for the lists on instance software.

Blocking by website link is worth caring about because for something like blocking news aggregator bots linking to a news and opinions mill with a glut of midwit college grads waiting to explain shit they're clueless about to the world (eg Hacker News) you're achieving nothing, new y combinator bots are made every day. The "in London you're never more than 20' away from a rat" soundbite equivalent for Fediverse is "On Mastodon you're never more than 30 mins away from a new Hacker News bot".
