this is one of the downsides of how much China’s managed to get its hooks in across Africa (often with industrial redevelopment and other investments) and, frustratingly, a lot of African leaders are too chickenshit to do anything about it (our own in ZA included in this) https://mastodon.social/@anirvan/116501623999056534
