@keyboardpipette@genomic.social It's tough to meet the criteria of "defined the times" since back in the 80s and 90s the channels for accessing music were fewer, and sucessful bands would be broadly well known. These days anyone can listen to anything they want, and a lot of smaller and diverse genres are popular. I read an article that said Gen Z listeners musical taste "largely centres on internet-spawned subgenres such as digicore or zoomergaze". Are our times being defined by zoomergaze? Probably not.
