@grammargirl Bonjour. As a native French speaker, I was wondering what French word eager comes from. I discovered it's « aigre », which means « acid, sour, acrimonious ». And as a Brazilian learner, I discovered that in Portuguese « ansioso » means « eager, longing ». Whereas in French « anxieux » means « anxious, worried », but never « longing ». Nothing is simple.
