@rowb1t @julesh @pettter despite my emoji react i can see what you're getting at but that's how i feel anyway
going back to that law analogy it's like saying you do family law and everyone thinks you're getting paid by abusive deadbeat dads to help get them custody of the kids to spite their exes when most of your work is tax planning for a mixed couple's estate plan

@apophis @julesh @pettter clarifying statement: the motivation around compiler construction is to allow human operators to provide instructions to the computer in the simplest way possible (binary -> assembly -> high-level languages -> very-high-level languages), the "holy grail" of which is using natural language to write programs -- whereas the goal of PL theory is to come at this same problem from the other direction.
