  @leftylabourtech Regarding not collecting information, yes, I certainly agree with this. Google started collecting users' personal usage information years ago, when they realized this could create more targeted marketing. I've heard that laws in the US were going to forbid it, but then 911 happened, and suddenly the government dropped any anti-surveillance push and embarked on their own increase in surveillance (my source on this is something I saw in an Adam Curtis documentary, which I confess may or may not be accurate... regardless, I'm accepting this as accurate). Anyway, yes, not allowing the collecting and tracking of users' usage for marketing purposes would be the best. That makes non-tracking entities that aren't fronts for marketing, like Mastodon, a better choice than Google or Facebook, which are fronts for marketing. This all is a bit of a digression from the topic of the current psychological belief that young brains are especially vulnerable to social media and often suffer ill effects from it.
