I think it's going to go in a destructive direction when selection for leadership roles in vital social infrastructure favors celebrity and a background of wealth over skill, competence, knowledge and a love for the people. The results aren't going to be anything that The People actually want or need, because the leadership will always be out of touch and distant from the majority. This is even dangerous and puts society in peril, leaving it to consider self governance, People-appointed leadership through any means necessary, especially when public health and safety are in jeopardy.
