So, I'm going to give an opinion first: Spinal surgery on a shark is animal cruelty. It seems as though they were doing this from an animal research angle, which, disturbs me about zoos and aquariums, because, at the end of the day, aren't all those captive animals "lab rats"? Sure, it's about conservation, preservation and all that. Anyways, I felt empathy for this poor shark. Spinal surgery generally doesn't work out for most humans either, and we actually have the structure for it to be possible, whereas a shark's cartilage poses great challenges. (Note: I'm actually terrified of sharks, BUT, I respect them!) https://www.msaquarium.org/p/animals/veterinary-care/stellas-story
