I have gone with a field maple, which is a type of acer, to help fill in the visual gap from the conifer in the opposite garden that was cut down. Another conifer would probably have been easier but I thought why not have a bit of a change. The sampling comes with multiple branches intact and says to cut them all back except for one if you want a more traditional tree look; not sure what style I want yet, but I think I have time to decide at least
