— "Can you believe how stupid and primitive the ancient Greeks were? When they didn't know something, they asked an oracle, and they believed whatever it said!" — "That's nuts. Where was this oracle?" — "No idea. Let's go ask ChatGPT."

@xahteiwi@mastodon.social I'm a believer in the oracle of Delphi. Obviously the drugged priestess spouted nonsense, but then it was interpreted by the priests. They had centuries of experience and received delegations from throughout the Greek world. They'd know if, say, the harvest failed in Sicily or war broke out in Egypt. And they could judge how that might impact on trade and politics elsewhere. In other words, a think tank, and probably quite a good one

@xahteiwi@mastodon.social Only one Greek I know of didn’t “ believe”what the Oracle said… specifically about him. Later in his life he was “told “ to drink hemlock for something stupid , or disobedience or something like that . At least that’s what legend tells us 😄 On a further note…. if you’ve never been to Delphi Greece dude…. seriously you gots to go ! It’s amazing ! Good Joke too 😄 🕊️

@xahteiwi@mastodon.social sure The Oracle has some downsides but at least it makes my work more efficient. Let me just make another sacrifice for The Oracle. It requires me to burn my field down. But it's okay, The Oracle will bring abundance tomorrow. Yes, I am an effective oraclist and oracle accelerationist.
