I've been homeless 3 times. Traveled the country. Learned that there's overwhelmingly good people out there that want to help others. I've also learned that any system designed for the masses is inevitably designed to create maximal suffering for the dispossessed class. I know how to cheat the system, to steal from the overlords who steal from everyone, I know how to work around the system. I know how to be invisible, and I know how to make myself seen when the walls are closing in. Do you need housing? You can create your own references by going online and creating a free virtual voicemail inbox. Record a message for "City Rentals" and put it down for potential landlords to call it. Then when they leave a message, call back and leave a message that says "yep, they're good tenants, paid every month, and left the place clean, go ahead and rent to them." It's that simple. Most places I saw wanted 10 years of rental history. What are you supposed to do if you rented from a private owner or weren't housed at all? Lie. Lie your ass off. This is your life. You can't let people tell you that you don't deserve comfort. What else do you need? There's ways to fulfill those basic needs without depriving yourself of basic dignity.
