@Heliograph @BjornIdle Honestly people. No. Just no. Don't you know anything? On Agaricus (edible) the volva attaches _under_ the cap. On Amanita phalloides aka death cap (only edible once, as Terry Pratchett ? pointed out) the volva encloses the cap, so once the shroom comes through the remnants look quite different. And then: spore print. (You do always do spore prints, right?) Agaricus: brown. Amanita: white. See? Not identical. (Okay. Seriously? Do not mess around with anything that could be Amanita. And that does, sadly, include Agaricus if you're a shroom beginner.)
