I wouldn't go so far as progressive. The problem is that the USA has drifted so far to the right that your conservatives are literal hardcore fascists nowadays
But they do love up to the conservative ethics that the Catholic church has been preaching for a long time without really applying it.
And strong drop off hypocrisy, call it honesty, is something that even atheists can acknowledge.
That's literally what is missing from today's politicians @Thorium @EthicalProfessor

which politicians of my youth at least partially had, which made it possibly to respect them even if did not agree with them on big chunks of policy, but at least you could respect them on a personal level. @Thorium @EthicalProfessor @rejzor
