Most FPS games follow a path of “get more extreme weapons so you can fight ever harder enemies”. I want the reverse. You start well-armed. Your shit breaks; you run out of specialized ammo with no more to be had. You’re thinning the enemy ranks as you go but your job get harder and you constantly have to worry that if you pull out a bigger gun, you’ll not have it when you really need it.

@calcifer@masto.hackers.town This reminds me of a "Reverse Metroidvania" style game idea, where it's that, but with Metroid style powerups being deposited.

@calcifer@masto.hackers.town survival horror games supposedly take this more seriously (while still not starting you off with your entire arsenal, RE9 gives Leon a gun at the start he'll potentially prefer for the parts of the final boss fight that don't warrant explosives) unfortunately, on all but the hardest modes it's fairly easy to end up with a stockpile if you're a good shot and don't mind juking the odd weaker zombie
