@cstross I was always so frustrated that rechargable AAs didn't catch on in the 90s. We had some in the nickel metal hydride tech days and they were great for the camera, and more practical imo for actually taking your camera deep and away into the mountains or woods than Li-Ion chemistry which sadly hates being deep cycled (whereas these guys loved it). They didn't have the energy density tho of course. Growing up and becoming more world weary in my career in semiconductors and R&D, it became incredibly obvious that it just doesn't make you as much money to sell durable goods in the short term. My old boss used to say "you make more money selling glue than you do building boxes." I'm well aware it's all possible, I just wish creep billionaires could be done away with and we could have as many nice things of this kind as we want.
