i've been making more time for watching movies as part of my "engage with more fiction" side quest. i have a letterboxd account where i keep track of things to watch, sometimes ill pick a director and a subset of their movies to watch back to back, but it's mostly an at the moment vibe based way of choosing what to watch.
i recently watched Perfect Days and loved it. a few days later i stumbled through my watchlist and randomly selected Paris, Texas. i also loved it. when i was reading more about the movie i realized it was the same director as Perfect Days, Wim Wenders.
now i'm interested to watch more of his stuff. these two movies were slow builds that ultimately don't amount to anything heroic but are deeply human. they are also so beautiful. what a treat to encounter these soulful works.
