I guess what I don’t get that these people get is a sense of power by bending reality for the benefit of themselves, instead of a sense of power from understanding the nuances of the universe, or at least attempting to.

Absolutely coorect, and I just realized how impenetrable of a cult you can create if you just base it's entire existence on a single rule of being aware and satisfied of being hypocritical. Thank you, who knows, might turn out to be useful some day!
