Claude Code has been consuming a significant number of tokens recently without major workflow changes due to product updates. For technical writing tasks, switching to the low effort mode reduces token usage without sacrificing output quality. The default model Sonnet 4.6 also remains highly effective for technical writing and source code exploration.
