all good points. Thank you. I'm tamping down the urge to dig in around comparison of differences in "hard-line" approaches because that doesn't feel like it would be productive.
I had not seen Christine's response yet (insert mutterings about the vagaries of my own attention management here) but I especially appreciate her highlighting the bit about "incorporating their workflows with ours" which I oppose & hadn't absorbed from my earlier skim.
I would say by-and-large any such workflows are substantially not primarily those of the individual newcomers, but of their bosses and of the upstream AI companies.
there is some scope for bricolage-types of individual creativity from whatever people put together but the bulk of those workflows are opaque, unsustainable, and exploitative

@idlestate @pho4cexa I certainly over-simplified in talking about "hard-line" approaches and I appreciate your restraint from diving into that. especially after reading this reply, I think our positions are similar overall. the four hours of sleep I've gotten since last posting is not enough for more depth on the topic so I just want to thank both of you for your thoughtfulness
