@june@ublog.kimapr.net fun(?) fact, statistically you'd have to inbreed for three generations have inbreeding depression to where it starts to negatively impact quality of life. but also same sex consang relations or infertile relations (i.e. post op or blocked fertility via medicine, surgery or condoms) have literally zero risk besides making family dinners awkward if there is a falling out. so people ignoring that are falling into the "bad" side of eugenicism. even before you adopt the whole incest is illegal thing, which varies a lot. marriage is universally banned (who the fuck knows why), but sex is like really random.

@ada @june i think the "universally banned" has something to do with how marriage (when viewed as a universal) is used to build ties/alliances/relationships between different families. at best, such marriages provide zero function. in the cases where a community is expected to provide something (e.g. wedding gifts) it can be seen as greedy since things like dowry or other material obligations stay within the family. (i'm probably wrong, tho)

@june@ublog.kimapr.net the "good" side of eugenicism is the tiny thin sliver of reasoning where you anticipate a child to have severe genetic issues like huntingtons or cancer. it's not a particularly good set of reasoning but it's one i can understand.

@ada@zoner.work @june@ublog.kimapr.net > family dinners awkward if there is a falling out this is why i believe children should not be brought up by people who have sex with each other /jkjkjk
