The only reason to use a "Hilbert" space (a multidimensional vector space with complex component weights) is so they won't have to write out cosines and sines along with probabilities. These dudes think they are SO smart because they use things with obscure names.
A complex number as they use it is merely a shorthand for cosines and sines.
(The "real" use of complex numbers that actually is impressive and accounts for them being called "numbers" is as roots of polynomials.)
