@mjd some people lose a job and find another one in few weeks/months, other people in a different situation lose a job and became jobless for years or even homeless. If you give advice then you also need to help people understand in what specific of the those situations they are.

@leonardom Yes, terrible things can happen to anyone at any time, for many reasons or none at all. The risks of getting fired are clear. The risks of failing to cultivate one's ability to think deeply? Much less so. Someone who gets fired may become homeless and starve, as you said. Or they may find another job. Maybe a worse one, or maybe better. But someone who fails to care about people, relationships, and justice? Someone who does evil in the world, for their own convenience? There's no good outcome there. You can make deliberate choices and help others to do the same.
