@nein nice! I built something similar years ago for the same reason: extracting the filesystem contents of a bunch of .deb packages and merging them all into a single image is way easier than the alternatives and goes a long way. I'm not sure I have the code for my implementation lying around anywhere, but I remember I wrote it before Rust so I used C and libarchive. anyway I think it's a great approach and deserves to be more widely known, so, nice work!
