A few years ago someone tried to Venmo me $20 but I didn't have Venmo. Eventually Venmo gave up trying to email me about the $20 that's waiting for me, and I assume they kept it for themselves. A few months ago I ordered a burrito at a food truck and when it came time to pay they said they don't take credit card, only Venmo. They apologized and just let me have the burrito. Everything works out in the end.

Everyone younger than me seems surprised when I don't have Venmo. PayPal was the trauma I grew up with instead, and I still use it when necessary. PayPal owns Venmo. When I look into whether Venmo has better policies and behaviors than PayPal, the answer is almost always no, it's worse actually. Why would I submit myself to being abused twice when I could be abused only once??
