Every time I read the book, it makes me laugh and cry in all the same places, and I hope it always will. I don't think I'd still feel human if I ever became immune to those scenes. Weirdly enough, it's also one of the few "religious" books I don't mind, and yes, those quotation marks are there for a reason. Don't let your own opinions on religion stop you from reading that book - I almost did, and it would have been a mistake. This is not, strictly speaking, a Christian god, but a personal one.

I admire many authors. Those like Tolkien, who created worlds that will continue to shape people's fantasy for centuries. Those like Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett, whose words make you laugh first and think second, and then keep thinking until your brain hurts and you nod and say "that's probably right", simply because you don't want it to be wrong. Fynn, with his simple stories about a simple girl that might or might not actually have lived at some point, somehow surpasses them all.
