It has been an honor and delight getting to know @Tzipporah@turtleisland.social and @Yehuda@turtleisland.social over the past few months.
If you haven’t met them, they’re the grandfather & grandkid duo that co-admin #TurtleIsland, a server focused on building community with Native/Indigenous people, other BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) people, and allies. To me, their story perfectly encapsulates the best thing about the fediverse and Mastodon: People coming together to build a place for themselves.

@haubles @Tzipporah @Yehuda That was a great interview! I immediately jumped to https://joinmastodon.org/servers expecting to see a new "Indigenous" category with turtleisland.social at the top so it would be easier for people to find them, but nope. I think it's great to feature them on the blog, but the masto sign up process still leaves a lot of instances that need to reach underserved communities without good visibility. Hopefully that is going to change soon!
