@bert_hubert@eupolicy.social has a great rant on the absurd cognitive dissonance people are getting used to… we *know* that “AI” isn’t the future, companies are burning the planet, the US is a global bully etc etc Scandalising and debunking become pointless. What I do not agree with is his conclusion: “One day I hope things will get better. And in the meantime, it is them that are wrong, and not you.” Things do not just get better. Someone has to change them. Us. https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/the-impossible-things-we-have-to-believe/

    @alineblankertz @bert_hubert @lisamelton Possibly true, but how?

  • @alineblankertz @bert_hubert I fear it will, at best, amount to a phoenix-from-the-ashes story. The constant frequency doubling before a catastrophe has already gained considerable momentum.

    @alineblankertz @bert_hubert > An open question is, if the majority of people don’t want any of the above, why is it still happening? Where on Earth did they get this notion the majority don't want? Do they ever talk to neighbours IRL? Have they so wrapped themselves in a bubble they still don't realize only maybe 12% are actively online, and 80% of those are playing Facebook games; the other 88% haven't a clue what this is all about, they're just trying to pay rent. Folks I talk to, IRL, enjoy the free messaging and 'peace and quiet' of their bubble. They get jobs, friends, colleagues and partners that never disagree, and where they do, they are easily muted. The essential strategy is to keep watching that Netflix series in hopes you can finish before the housefire reaches the living room, and even then they might rush to a friend's down the block to grab a few minutes more. As with any terminal illness, there's perhaps this push to experience The Good Life with gusto, before the lights go out?
