Why am I not surprised that the kind of Silicon Valley LinkedIn VC techbros who measure work output in "lines of code" now also measure compute power in "gigawatts".

@notthebee@tilde.zone can't wait for my side hobby of sewing to be measured in stitches instead of how much more I love my plushie now that she's wearing a cute sweater dress

@notthebee@tilde.zone Wait until you find out that they're also trying to measure productivity in LLM tokens spend...

@notthebee@tilde.zone not exactly in their defence, but for the sake of fairness: probably it's because "gigawatts" currently is _the_ metric of datacenter capacity. Simply becase space is not an issue, network can be made practically infinite (just a mater of price), cooling is becoming trickier and trickier, but doable... The electricity on the other hand is limited by supply really heavily. So I guess now everyone just cought up the term.

@notthebee@tilde.zone replace their analytics with cookie clicker stats so they can feed their "number go up" obsession without employees as a middle man
