@vi_zzyzx ear defenders are not going to do shit for me, unfortunately; one of the consequences of the birth defect causing my deafness is that I hear via bone conduction, i.e. my entire skull is my ear bones because the actual ones don't have anything to attach to (per exploratory ear surgery nearly 25 years ago). which is something I will get to explain when I go in. (I don't mind explaining, since it's not a common circumstance, but it's a component of why dentist appts are sensory hell enough for me to be avoidant.) ETA: also I'm going to wait until the appt's confirmed (on the basis of if they don't accept my insurance it won't do me any good anyway because I have no ability to pay) before seeing if they can get me in sooner.
