I was read to every day until I could read on my own, then taken to the library once a week and encouraged to borrow lots. Also given books as presents.
But no literate person in the household was read to.

As for grownups reading to each other at meals and in the car... That would have worked with wife1, she likes fantasy. But my mom and wife2 don't share my tastes. My dad only read yachting magazines when I was a kid. #books
