Trans people only (particularly interested in Black trans people's opinions): How do we feel about Cyberpunk 2077? So, reasons I'm interested: Based on my favorite table top game as a kidLead game programmer is a Black man (a rarity in AAA games so I want to support him)Reasons I'm concerned: heard it had transphobic vibesheard they mistreated employeesNo real evidence behind the concerns though and not sure if they'd resolved, but the game is now cheaper on GOG 🤔 #trans

  • @domo well it’s a dystopia world and i assume the transphobia likely is in reference to some of the ads you’ll see in night city, but didn’t bother me much. I’ve got 80hrs in the game, still haven gone to meet that lady at the tower lol. The actual trans characters you get to interact with (1 from what i remember) are pretty cool and well fleshed out. I spent a lot of time modding in hair and accessories tho (base hairstyles for black characters suck). It’s a really good rpg

@domo The most transphobic things in this game i find are how dating is handled. Gender functions in cyberpunk like this: You get to choose between 2 basic body shapes (male / female) and then you choose your protagonists voice / gender. The higher voice gives you she/her pronoums and the deeper voice gives you he/him pronouns. Choosing the voice is a very important choice bc unlike other protagonists you will hear very many dialogue lines from your "avatar". And the voice (and basic bodytype) is the one thing that cant be changed during a playthrough. You can mix and match any body type with any voice and you can customize various body parts more detailed But (that is a major spoiler) The romanceable characters only date you when you match their prefered body type. (Aka straight woman will only date a character with male body type, regardless of pronouns / voice) I had to choose a male basic body to date the male gay romance option and basically in my last run where I started with feminine body and male voice, i was basically opted out of dating options (its kind of an isolating experience in that way but honestly, romance is not the focus point of this game anyways). Also if you choose the feminine body type there is no option to be completely boobless unfortunately (there are mods for that, also with top surgery scars even but it completely hinges on your pc setup whether the mods even work, on linux i cant get that). Also big minus the one conversation you can have with a canonical trans woman, there is no option to say you are trans too (which should be a given we are in a cyberpunk setting and body mods are very normalised in this world building) The language is misogynistic and chauvinistic at times bc of a certain character (the character is an asshole basically). Apart from the dating i think that basically your protagonist gets treated more or less the same regardless of how you configure your avatar. The character creation could be better because of how restrictive it is. All in all the game and the story itself is very immersive, and depending on your play style experience can be very different giving a lot of replayability. There isnt always a pacifist option though it is worth trying. The game has a huge amount of violence, you will kill a lot of npcs during your game time. The story is very intensive and I felt very immersed and felt strongly with the protagonist. Actually i think this game even surpassed the witcher 3 for me when it comes to immersion (its from the same team). I have cried my heart out during my playtime. Sometimes i felt like this game was a bit therapeutic in a way bc it deals with a topic that i still think about. But that is just my own perception i dont think that this is a common thing to feel.

@raine Interesting, because I just had an ace trans person say positive things about it, and then I had another person who is allosexual say it was great. Thus far, only trans people have commented so 🤷 So we've got 3 positive, 1 mid. (and I swear to god, if a cis person shows up, I will fight them)

@domo there's some stuff that isn't ideal, and some of the satire in the advertising can come off gross, but i also think that's a very intentional commentary in their world so your mileage will vary. the trans characters are well written if not abundant but it's one of my favorite games ever. takes a little bit to get there, but once everything emotionally clicks, i think it's pretty phenomenal

@domo@pizza.enby.city it definitely sexualities trans people in a very gross way but like, it's as a part of the worldbuilding where everything is hypersexualized. So it's maybe excusable but that doesn't mean it's gonna be enjoyable. Take that as you will, I thought the game was mid
