@Quasit @rootschange I haven’t used it yet personally, so I have no idea how mature it is, [but AFAIK it’s the only federated messaging system](it’s not!). It seems that there are quite a few client options though, so that’s a good sign I guess.
Edit: TIL that Jabber and IRC are federated.

@illogical_me @Quasit @rootschange there’s XMPP, unlike Matrix, it’s an IETF standard and has been around since decades.
