The rising stupidity of the world (as seen below) kind of fits into theories of strain and anomy and the like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strain_theory_(sociology) As many people still adhere to social goals (e.g. wealth) but are less and less able to achieve them through approved means (e.g. hard work), we would expect to see a rise both in frequency and intensity of illegitimate means of achieving said goals (e.g. gambling, fraud, get-rich-quick schemes etc.)
