That said, you should be aware, that whenever you boost a post, it is the same as saying "this is so interesting that I think that anyone following me should read it".
So, a boost is basically a share, which is the same as posting something yourself, and that can clutter up the feed for people that follows you pretty quickly, since there is no algorithm selecting what to show to your followers - it all goes out to us.
I initially made the same mistake, and I think it is one of the things that isn't entirely clear to newcomers here on Mastodon.
So, use boosting in moderation and use favorites to acknowledge a post - that way nobody gets overwhelmed.
In short:
Boost = Share with ALL your followers
Favorite = Like
