@bloodravenlib Well, I think a surprising number of people open champagne bottles pointing the corks in the general direction of their faces, so... I just don't think it's a precaution that most people think much about, and it's mostly fine

@bloodravenlib @jawnsy Years ago I was opening a bottle of "birch juice" (birch sap, collecting it in spring is extremely popular in Latvia) that had sat there for a while. The cap of the bottle hit my palm so hard it got bruised. I was partially leaning over it, without the palm in the way the cap might have hit my head. So it's not that people intentionally point containers at their faces, but in some situations leaning over (think leaning down during a hike etc) can aim straight at the face.
