Success! Not only does it run, but the keyboard and mouse are compatible and connected. This should be a fun project for us both!

And with a few trial-and-error riddled guided stumbles through Terminal, I have successfully transferred files off our main desktop into the Linux machine. It's easy for a person with just enough knowledge to be dangerous, but I can see how this could frustrate the average bear.
