Spent a decent part of the afternoon fault finding Dad's through-floor mobility lift, originally installed over fifteen years ago. It's stopping short when descending. The manufacturer/installer said "You can't afford it" to the distance charges for a service (they're on the south coast of England and we're on the northwest tip of Wales) and no local firm seems to want to bother with us. Found a service manual online for an adjacent model. The control board is different but the wiring harnesses and working principles are the same. Isolated the problem using the circuit diagram to a magnetically operated reed switch (which should bypass other limit switches when it's operated), and further narrowed it down with a multimeter to being one or two potentially broken wires in a flexing wiring harness linking a static part to the moving lift. So it's still not fixed but we now know roughly where the problem is.
