@aburka my conclusion so far is that the LLM coding assistant amplifies existing differences in capability. weak programmers have a very, very hard time coping with these things. I think the jury is still out on what the overall effect is. the course was partially a software engineering course in disguise. as is every course I teach, regardless of what it's called.

    @regehr @aburka I have witnessed extremely capable senior engineers willfully ignoring issues with LLM output I pointed out in a friendly manner, and *nobody* is immune to vigilance fatigue. that's just hubris.

    @regehr I’m curious whether you think of this as a “square numbers in [0, 1]” situation, or numbers greater than one. Is it making everybody worse while amplifying the differences, or is it accelerating the good people too? I’m kind of finding the former in my job.
